Intermittent or Reduced Leave

Intermittent or reduced leave will be granted for a serious health condition when it is both: (a) medically necessary; and (b) the need is best accommodated through an intermittent or reduced leave schedule. Intermittent leave means you are off work for separate blocks of time. An example of intermittent leave would be taking every Monday and Friday off in order to undergo prescribed treatment. Reduced leave means the number of hours in a day or week are reduced in order to give you the necessary time off. An example of reduced leave would be taking off every Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 1:00 p.m. in order to attend required physical therapy. We may transfer you in order to accommodate your request for intermittent or reduced leave, or possibly place you on part-time status.

Leave for birth or placement of a child may, if ACST agrees, be taken on intermittent or reduced leave schedule (as defined above). Each request for intermittent or reduced leave under these circumstances will be considered on a case-by-case basis, but as a general rule, intermittent or reduced leave will not be granted for the birth or placement of a child.
