History of ACS Technologies Group, Inc.
In the late 1970s, few business people could envision what the future of computing held. But Harris Rogers, a young entrepreneur who sold payroll processing services to local companies, including churches, saw the computer market emerging. In 1978, with the help of several local investors, he officially founded Computer Dimensions, which is what we now know as ACS Technologies Group, Inc.
The first few years for the startup were difficult. Among other issues, churches had to be convinced they could benefit from a computer system. It wasn’t until the end of 1979 that the company had its first client: First Baptist Church in Spartanburg, South Carolina — which is still counted among our 50,000 customers. Shortly after First Baptist Church Spartanburg signed on with ACST, Elmbrook Church in Brookfield, Wisconsin, came on board. When a California church then also made a purchase, ACST proclaimed that its products were used in churches from coast to coast.
The continued support of key investors who believed in the mission of the company, including the late Billy Campbell, kept ACST afloat through its first years. But the release of the personal computer changed everything. By 1986, sales had increased to the point that the company made a profit for the first time in its eight-year history. The growth continued, and, in 1993, the company made the first of many acquisitions that have marked the climb of ACST to its rank as the leading software provider for churches and faith based organizations. Notable acquisitions include the Parish Data System in 2004, The City in 2011, MissionInsite and By the Book in 2109, MinistryPlatform, PocketPlatform, and Higher Ground in 2021.
The future for ACS Technologies is exceptionally good. Since 1978, ACST has grown from several employees to over 400 employees across the country with offices in Florence, SC; Greenville, SC; Colliervillle, TN; and Phoenix, AZ.
